Ultrasonic methods enjoy the great capabilities in solving various problems associated with structural engineering and engineering materials. In this seminar, a host of research works and studies in this field carried out by the speaker will be presented to demonstrate the broad spectrum of their applications in aerospace engineering. Focus will be on nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and characterization of aerospace materials such as composites. Topics to be presented in the seminar include (1) 3-D imaging of damage in composites, (2) echo detection using the homomorphic deconvolution, (3) mechanical characterization of fiber-reinforced composites, (4) ray tracing model for characterizing fiber waviness in thick composites, (5) real-time monitoring of damage evolution in ceramic-matrix composite, (6) monitoring of matrix cracking, (7) ultrasonic phased arrays and processing of array data, (8) synthetic phase tuning of Lamb waves, (9) spectrotemporal analysis of dispersive waves, etc.
